Do you know how many hours you need to feel your best when you wake up in the morning? What time do you get up in the morning? Calculate backwards to figure out what time you need to go to bed to get in a good night’s sleep. For me, it is hard to make myself go to bed at night. Do it anyway. You will feel better and have more energy if you get the sleep your body needs.
Drink tons of water!
Did you know that simply drinking enough water every day will help curb your appetite, give you more energy and will help your digestion? If you like filtered water, great. If you drink tap water, fine. Just grab a glass or a bottle every chance you get.
Walk or move your body every day!
If you have a regular exercise program, schedule it into your calendar and keep it up if at all possible. And on your “off” days, try to do something – some stretching, some yoga or a short walk. If it gets to be 7 pm and you haven’t done any kind of movement yet for the day, take a 10-minute walk outside. What? It’s cold? Can you go to the gym, the mall, go up and down the stairs or even walk in place in your home? Getting moving will improve your mood, your muscles and your mind. Have healthy snacks handy!
If you have to go out of your way to buy an apple, but there is a huge platter of cookies in the lunchroom at work, it becomes all too easy to binge on those darn cookies. Each morning plan out healthy snack options such as an organic apple, banana, almonds, walnuts, baby carrots and hummus or even a bowl of your favorite soup.
Take a time out!
Carve out some quiet time to just relax. Make yourself a cup of green tea and sit in your favorite chair. Maybe write in a journal or read a book or favorite magazine. Go to your local pool and sit in the sauna or hot tub. Listen to a guided meditation such as headspace.com.
It’s not easy to make the time to take care of yourself but you are worth it. Take care of yourself so you can feel your best to take care of those around you.
